School Volley continues to deliver in Term 2

School Volley presented by Think. Again has had a strong start to the year with a record number of teams competing in the Think Again High School Beach Cup in Term 1, four regional visits to deliver a range of School Volley programs and the ongoing delivery of Sporting Schools.

Term 2 started with Volleyball WA’s (VWA) Indoor Development Squad and had 104 participants take part in the seven- week program that focused on skill development and game play. Athletes took advantage of the sessions to hone their skills prior to trials for the 2019 Australian Junior Volleyball Championship. VWA Schools and Junior Development Coordinator Greg Hunt was excited about the amount of athletes that we able to transition from the squad and into the state team.

“It was great to see that half of this year’s junior Indoor Development squad were new to the program and even more encouraging that 39 students got selected in a WA team. Their selection highlights the ongoing importance we place in developing our high performance pathways and providing opportunities for our teenage participants.” Hunt said.

During Term 2 VWA was also approached by Kalbarri District High School to facilitate some volleyball development sessions in the Mid-West. After some formal planning, VWA headed up to the region during week 9 of the term with Level 3 Coach Steve Page to run some clinics in Geraldton, Kalbarri and Northampton for 150 students. The opportunity also allowed VWA to present a Teacher PD workshop over the three day trip.

VWA is excited to continue this momentum in to the second half of the year with the High School and Primary School Cups, the opening of some new Kids Volley Centres and conclusion of the Western Australian Volleyball Junior League.

Term 3 will see WA High Schools compete in the all important WA Schools Cup. The Year 11/12’s will play on the 23rd and 24th August whilst the Years 7-10 will compete from the 19th to the 21st September. Entries are now open with deadlines set for the Year 11/12 Cup on the 2nd August and the Year 7-10 on the 15th August. In 2018 169 High School teams took part in the two competitions.
