2018 AJVC Finals – Recap

The 2018 Australian Junior Volleyball Championships have come to a conclusion in Queensland with four WA teams competing in finals.

The U15 Girls and U17 Boys both competed for a gold medal on the final day, while the U15 Boys and U17 Girls fought it out in their respective bronze medal matches.

The U17 Boys finished the round robin in third behind Queensland and Victoria, however two consecutive wins in preliminary finals against Victoria and ACT saw them compete in the gold medal match. The boys faced a dominant Queensland team and struggled in the first set. They fought hard in the second and third, however had to settle for silver.

The U15 Girls went into the gold medal play off with 7-3 round robin record and faced South Australia in the final, a team they had lost to twice already. It is clear from the final score card that the girls weren’t going give SA an easy win. Fighting for every point the U15 girls were defeated 25-17, 26-24 and 26-24.

After a sensational start to the Championships, it was a tough conclusion for the U15 Boys. After only missing out on the Gold medal match by the smallest fraction, the U15 boys were unfortunately defeated in a five seat game by Victoria.

The U17 Girls were more successful in their Bronze medal match against South Australia. The under dogs in the match, the girls delivered an electrifying final against the team they lost their first match too. Winning in three sets the WA girls took it out 25-20, 25-17, 25-17.
