The 2014 Pan Pacific Masters Games was held on the Gold Coast in Queensland from 1st November – 9th November. Over 12, 000 participants traveled to this beautiful destination to compete in one of Australia’s premier multi-sport events.
Competing in the indoor volleyball competition WA had 2 women’s teams in the 30+ category – Mighty Swans and We Dig It and a men’s team in the 35+ category – Southern Cross. A number of these players also joined in on the fun in the mixed teams as well.
Both the Mighty Swans and Southern Cross came away with Silver, while We Dig It, whose players were dropping like flies, still made the finals with no setters and awesome stripey socks!
The mixed competition saw old friends reunited and new friends made. It was a mixed bag of results with the Mixedfits (40+) taking out gold, team Reunited (40+) took out the bronze, team Miscellaneous (25+) left with gold and Miscellaneous 2 took out the silver and even got to play with ex-olympian Anita Palm.
The pairs competing in the beach volleyball competition were:
- Alywn White and Romano
- Matthew Thackray and David Hedge
- Carl Kenne and Carl Nicolas
- Bob and Carl Nicolas
- Kent Shanley and Paul
