WAVL Round 14-LEAGUE TABLES TIGHTEN

An upset win in the Superleague 1 Men’s division has headlined a week in which the top placed teams across the competition are being challenged for their spots. The finals race is on!

Northern Stars came into yesterday’s match against second-placed Balcatta Cats missing experienced players and needing a victory to boost their finals chances. A determined Stars team produced an impressive blocking and defensive display coupled with composure shown by their young offensive lineup. Balcatta threatened to take the match into their own hands at times but were unable to maintain momentum as Stars claimed a spectacular upset win 3-0; 25-17,25-20,25-20. With this win Stars move into third in the competition behind Balcatta, passing Rossmoyne on the Raptors’ bye round.

In other matches, ECU Chequers Superleague Reserve Women moved one step closer to fourth-placed Southern Cross by defeating them 3-2; 25-21,22-25,25-20,22-25,15-13. In Women’s Superleague 3, sixth-place Fremantle Fury took second-place Southern Cross all the way to the wire, eventually losing 15-17 in the fifth set.
