Beach Volleyball for High School Students.

Volleyball WA offers several options for juniors to get into Beach Volleyball.

All of our coaching sessions are conducted by qualified, highly experienced coaches who deliver expert advice for absolute beginners through to elite players.

We welcome any high-school aged players to come to our Junior Coaching Sessions, which run through the summer months. Please contact Volleyball WA regarding these sessions.

Junior players can progress upwards into our Junior Beach Development Squad. This is for players looking to take their volleyball further and hope to play in the higher divisions of our State Series, or even play in the National Junior Beach Volleyball Tournaments. Most players in this squad start at the Junior Coaching Sessions.

Junior Beach Volleyball Tournaments
1. Talk to your teacher about entering teams in the Drug Aware WA Beach Volleyball School Championships. This is an annual event and the biggest beach volleyball tournament in WA! It brings 600+ high school students to the beach for a fantastic tournament. Entries are generally school-based, and teams are either 4-a-side or 2-a-side for the more competitive.

2. Find a friend and play in the Drug Aware WA Beach Volleyball State Series, which runs on weekends from December to March. The competition is graded to accommodate all ability levels, and you can play in individual tournaments or enter for the entire season. All grades are same-sex, 2-a-side teams. Go to (State Series Beach Volleyball) to find out more!

3. Play Social 2 or 4-a-side Beach Volleyball at our Royal Park venue. This is a social graded competition which has on-going seasons for most of the year. Teams are ability-graded and it's a great introduction to playing Beach Volleyball. Go to (Social Competitions) for more information.

The 2006 Drug Aware WA High School Beach Championships were held at the beginning of the year, rather than in November, for the first time. This shift away from the end of year will allow more upper school entries as it avoids exam schedules and also provides more reliable weather (less wind!).

Junior beach tounament

March 9th and 10th saw 114 teams playing on the white sands of City Beach under near perfect conditions. With terrific help from our major sponsors, Healthway - Drug Aware, 96FM, V Moto, Hillarys The Great Escape and Vodafone, all players and teachers were ensured a great day (including a visit on both days from the 96FM Road Thunders).

The standard of beach volleyball and sportsmanship was very high, showing the outstanding work that teachers have done in preparing their students for the tournament. Special mention goes to Amanda Stock and her students at St Stephens Carramar, who umpired on several occasions for 'duty teams' that didn't show. They also looked great in their new, numbered team uniforms.

We welcomed several 'new' schools to the competition and look forward to their continued involvement. Thanks to Mandurah Senior College for making the journey to Perth.

Thank you to all teachers, players and VWA staff who combined to make the 2006 Drug Aware WA High School Beach Championships another successful event. We look forward to a huge 2007 tournament with more teams than ever.
