Beach volleyball is an incredibly popular sport that is easy to pick up and fun to play at almost any level. Suitable for players aged 10 and older, beach volleyball is a safe sport. With only two players on either side of the court, there is minimal chance for collision with another player, and the sand offers a safe surface onto which players can dive. Thus, beach volleyball provides a low-hazard environment that promotes fitness, the outdoors, and activity without worrying about getting hurt through physical contact.

All players should adhere to proper sun safety by wearing sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses on sunny days.

While beach volleyball is not a professional sport in Australia, its high profile in other countries and Australia's ability to produce quality athletes means that many athletes play professionally.

Australia has a great tradition in elite beach volleyball, winning medals in Olympic Games, including a Gold medal. Many Australian beach volleyball players have travelled the World and made a career in playing on the World Tour.
