Alcohol. Think Again WA State Open

The last event of the 2011/2012 Alcohol. Think Again WA Beach Volleyball Tour has proven to be a success once again. The weekend was hot and scorching with 40 degree temperatures on both days testing all teams and showing off the players' physical condition.

In the Women's AAA Grand Final, we saw a new pairing of Jenny Day and Sydney Olympian Pauline Manser battle it out against Mel Johnson and Taleah Atthowe. After winning the 1st set quite comfortably 21-12, Jenny & Pauline lost to Mel and Taleah in the 2nd set 19-21. At 1 set all, both teams started strong in the 3rd set however Pauline's experience shined through and the team won the 3rd set and the match 15-10.

The Men's AAA Grand Final was a very interesting and exciting game. Rhodri Simmonds and Brett Lewington came 2nd in the last two rounds of the Alcohol. Think Again WA Beach Volleyball Tour and they came out firing in the last Grand Final of the season. Their opponents, Michael Snart and Cole Durant have been a very strong team throughout the season as well proving it on the National Beach Volleyball Series Round 3 by claiming a Bronze Medal and a silver medal in Round 5. Michael and Cole took out the 1st set 21-18, however Rhodri and Brett claimed the 2nd set 21-18. The latter were leading in the 3rd set, but not for long. After a few very exciting points the score was even and it kept tight until the very end. At 16-15, Rhodri went back to serve and they won the game 17-15.

Volleyball WA would like to thank all players, sponsors and supporters for making this season of the Alcohol. Think Again WA Beach Volleyball Tour a very successful one and we are looking forward to the next year of competition already!
